Kimberly Kisner, a
practicing employment law attorney, is founder of
the Kisner Law Firm. With more than ten years of
employment-related legal experience, she advises
business owners, professional practices, and human
resource managers concerning legal issues in the
workplace and litigates employment discrimination
cases in federal and state courts.
Kim has experience in all aspects of employment law
including such areas as discrimination and
harassment under state and federal statutes,
employment and severance agreements, non-competition
and confidentiality agreements, the Americans with
Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act, and the Family Medical Leave Act.
She has handled employment litigation and
administrative claims in courts and agencies in
Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Additionally, Kim helps her clients avoid litigation
by reviewing their human resource policies and
practices to ensure they are in compliance. To keep
her clients in the workplace and out of the
courtroom, Kim provides client-specific “legal
audits” – identifying the most likely grounds for
employment-related problems. She follows an audit
with compliance and training recommendations geared
towards any problem areas. Her counsel does not end
with the audit. Kim also works in assisting with the
creation or revision of employee handbooks, drafting
policies and procedures, providing training for
management and staff, and providing on-call advice
for employment-related questions or dilemmas.
Prior to opening her own firm, Kim practiced
employment law at both large and small
Pittsburgh-based firms. She received her B.A., summa
cum laude, from West Virginia University where she
was an Honors Scholar and a member of Phi Beta
Kappa. She is a graduate of the University of
Pittsburgh School of Law where she served as Lead
Topics Editor of the Law Review. Ms. Kisner is
licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania and the State of West Virginia. She is
a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and
West Virginia Bar Associations.
In addition to being an attorney, Ms. Kisner invests
in residential real estate in her area and
volunteers with the Junior League of Pittsburgh, a
non-profit women’s organization committed to
promoting voluntarism and improving local
communities. She chaired the Junior League of
Pittsburgh’s 2007 Designers’ Show House, the
League’s largest fundraiser for its community
service projects. Under her stewardship, the League
raised a record $122,000 for its playground build
initiative and other mission-related projects. Kim
was recognized for her professional and
community-based efforts when she was selected by
Pittsburgh Magazine and the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet
Project (PUMP) as one of 2006’s “40 Under 40,” an
honor given to talented individuals under the age of
40 who are making a positive impact on the region’s
development.
